although I just checked the ttp://site and they are sold out. new head unit, new amp, new speakers.ĪKA- good info. If you keep the stock head unit but replace the amp and speakers, you'll need a different converter box. If you replace the head unit but keep the Bose amp and speakers, you'll need a converter box. Keep in mind that it's most cost-effective to do it all at once. However, if you're planning on removing the Bose equipment, replacing the head unit is the preferred option. The home-brew solution with switches and resistors and solder is for 1999-2001 single-DIN stereos. It requires nothing more to install than pulling out the stereo and plugging it in.

For this stereo the only option is the Sylfex AuxMod. All 2002-2005 Miatas (and 2001s without Bose) have some form of double-DIN "modular" stereo. There's generally only one way to do it with each type of factory stereo. It's only confusing if you're not paying attention to the year/model of stereo you have. If you are willing to risk it, your local Best Buy will install an aux input equipped head unit for less than $150 including the head unit. If you run into any issues, the Crutchfield guys will answer your questions over the phone. I installed this USB, aux, and iPod capable unit in an afternoon with no prior stereo install experience. Almost every aftermarket head unit will have an aux input these days.

They have pretty simple wiring harnesses that allow you to install a new head unit without much difficulty. Without soldering a jack, etc., is there a decent and affordable new head unit that is a simple plug in anyone really likes? Looking at previous posts it's a jungle out there. Seems to be the first issue to attack is adding an AUX jack for the IPOD THEN DE-Boseing. Have loved great sound in our previous MX5 SE. We are soon receiving our 2nd Miata, a stock 2003 LS.
